Trade Show Calendar Updated with the 2020 and early 2021 dates

Hello World! We have a blog update here after many moons (and suns and quasars)! The Trade Show Calendar has been updated with the 2020 shows and some of the early 2021 shows as well. The CoronaVirus pandemic has some trade shows moving dates to the Fall of 2020, others moving to a date to be determined at a later date, and others moving to 2021, while Photokina has jumped all the way to May 2022.

Aside from the impact of COVID-19, 2020 is a leap year, and that changes the dates/weeks some trade shows happen, especially if they have a preset such as “Monday to Thursday”. A leap year has 52 weeks and TWO days, which means dates get pushed, some run into weekend boundaries and such, meaning some trade shows may move up or down by one week in the calendar.

As usual, please leave a comment or use the online contact form for corrections, additions and such.

Photography Trade Show Calendar for 2020 and early 2021 [updated]

Welcome to the Trade Show Calendar, a post that tracks camera and photography related trade shows, covering 2014.Q4 to early 2021, in reverse chronological order… This is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of every photography-related trade show on the planet, only the major/influential shows… For omissions/additions and corrections, please leave a comment or use the online contact form

Latest Update: December 23 (2020): Waiting to see how things go with the vaccine situation before I attempt another update of the calendar… All trade shows are subject to change/cancellation as of the time of writing due to the COVID-19 situation… Some shows moved to the Fall of 2020, others to 2021/2022, while others have TBD dates… As a result, the calendar is more jumpy than usual… Trade shows that don’t have confirmed dates have “??-??” as their date… SPE (every March) goes to a different city every year… CES changed their website to a .tech…

Black Friday 2018 Coverage at the Noisy Blog

Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2018 are almost upon us! This year, we are planning a more back-to-basics approach. The deals will be posted one by one (as usual) at our Camera Deals blog. This blog has a full-text RSS feed which is hosted at Feedburner, so if anything happens to the website, you can use Feedburner as a backup. Feedburner is hosted on Google’s own servers which are much more reliable than what a poor old blogger can afford 🙂

This year I won’t be doing rolling summary round-ups here at the main blog. I may do a “best of” type of a post if circumstances dictate it, but the on-going MEGA summary post won’t happen because it eats up time that I could be using to post even more new deals [instead of never-ending summaries/editing].

If you have any ideas and thoughts for BF/CM coverage and such, please feel free to leave a comment here or use the online contact form

Update: Trade Show Calendar added for 2019

Another year is almost over and as it has been our tradition here, we updated the on-going Trade Show Calendar with the 2019 events. A couple of events don’t have posted dates, that’s why you see the ??? as their dates. As usual, please feel free to leave comments or use the online contact form for additions, corrections and deletions…

PS: this post also serves as an alert for those of you following on RSS readers and email notifications….

And we are back [once again!]

UPDATE NOV-06-2918: the Trade Show Calendar for 2019 will be added later this week! If you have any updates, eg new trade shows starting up in 2019 [or corrections of any kind], please use the online contact form or leave a comment here…

And we are back once again! We have already started picking up momentum in the Camera Deals blog as we are building up to the Black Friday 2018 madness which will come a bit earlier this year, Friday [obviously] November 23.

Time sure does fly! We’ve been doing this for 13 (!!!) years [e-Dinosaur alert!]. Here are some of our early posts back when I was using Livejournal. After all, up until a few weeks ago, George R. R. Martin himself was using Livejournal [then again he writes his voluminous books using Wordstar on MS-DOS] 🙂

To put 13 digital camera years in perspective, some of the cameras we were talking about then: the early stages of the Canon 5D “Beatle mania”, Panasonic launched the LX-series with the LX1, Minolta had its own 5D DSLR, the Samsung PRO 815 superzoom [up to 420mm eq], the Nikon D2X professional DSLR, the Leica Modul-R, the Fuji F10 [early precursor to the Fuji F31fd cult camera], and so forth… Meanwhile among the hot topics of discussion back then was the Figure of Merit formula… . Numbers-wise, Kodak was the #1 in digital camera unit sales in the US market, with HP (!!!) being number five… And on and on and on…

As far as this [the main blog] we will continue with some of our recurring features, and also start new projects, more specifically things that are not typically covered, eg niche topics. If you have any pet ideas you want to see done/covered, please feel free to leave a comment, or use the online contact form

New Cameras and Lenses of 2018

WHAT IS THIS? here we track serious/interesting products, we no longer attempt to track every single camera out there. This is a reference page, not a “breaking news” tracker, so cameras/lenses won’t necessarily be added the millisecond they are officially announced – we no longer chase the “news cycle” after all 🙂

For previous years, check the New Cameras of 2017 and the New Cameras of 2016 and the New Cameras of 2015

Camera Price Charts February 2018 Episode IV: Fixed Lens Cameras

Mission accomplished! The mid-February 2018 price chart series is now complete! The Fixed Lens Cameras had some price activity, but we only had one new camera, but at the same time, we “lost” zero cameras since the November 2017 update.

We continue to have a healthy mix of sensor sizes and zoom ratios, from primes to superzooms, and 1 inch all the way up to 35mm full frame. Just don’t expect a 35mm full frame superzoom any time soon 🙂

Camera Price Charts February 2018 Episode II: APS-C DSLRs – The Madness of King Canon

And we are back now with Episode II in our mid-February 2018 series of the Camera Price Charts, we take a look at the APS-C DSLRs. We had no new APS-C DSLRs since our November update and we “lost” the Nikon D5300 as it is no longer available in new condition at the three reference retailers [details at the bottom of the post].

The story of this update is the madness of Canon’s pricing. Both the D-Rebel T6s and T6 prices have skyrocketed, while the illogical pricing of the D-Rebel T5i continues (the body only costs $100 more than the T5i with the kit lens).

Camera Price Charts February 2018 Episode I: 35mm Full Frame Price Drops from Sony and Canon

And we are back with another edition of the Price Charts series! We take a snapshot of the prices and compare them to each other and previous installments of the Camera Price Charts. As before, we start with 35mm full frame cameras. Not just interchangeable lens, but any camera that has a 35mm FF size sensor!

In order to make this chart readable, manageable and relevant, the various Leicas ranging from $4K to $8K are not included.

FINALLY FULL FRAME DISCOUNTS – from Sony and Canon

Prices were upticking in our November 2017 edition but the theme this time around is discounting. And not just trivial discount. The Sony a7r II and a7 II dropped $500 each, the Canon 5D Mark III dropped $300, and the Canon 1D X II and Sony a7s II dropped $200 each. The prices in yellow in the chart right below indicate cameras with price drops…
